LOWER LAKE — Despite the best efforts of Middletown High School”s Dylan Galusha, the Clear Lake Cardinals rallied to beat the Mustangs 52-49 in overtime and clinch the junior varsity title on Saturday during the final round of the 13th annual Record-Bee Hoop Classic at Lower Lake High School.

Shut out in the first half against Clear Lake, which won the round-robin tournament with a 4-0 record, Galusha scored six of his 11 points in the overtime period to give Middletown a 49-45 lead. In fact, after Robert Anderson”s bucket put Clear Lake ahead 45-43 in the extra period, Galusha scored the next six points all by himself.

The Cardinals rallied to tie the game at 49 on the strength of baskets by Noel McCormack and Corey Dillon, the latter with 59.3 seconds remaining.

Seth Glazier hit the second of two free throws for Clear Lake with 32.9 seconds remaining to put the Cardinals in front to stay at 50-49. Anderson added another free throw with 15 seconds left to make it 51-49.

Middletown”s Galusha and Zack Strickler both missed shots from the field in the final seconds. After Strickler”s runner in the lane fell short, Clear Lake grabbed the rebound and Dillon was fouled with 5.5 seconds remaining. With the Cardinals in the double-bonus, Dillon missed the first show but hit the second to make it 52-49.

Dillon was voted the tournament”s MVP. McCormack, Ryan Richardson and Seth Glazier, who won the sixth-man award, also were named to the All-Tournament team along with Middletown”s Galusha and Strickler, who led the Mustangs with 13 points. Johnny Harmyk added 10.

For Clear Lake, McCor-mack and Richardson led the way with 14 points apiece and Dillon and Anderson finished with nine each.
