Longtime Lakeport resident Robert Gregory Groshong, AKA “Cadillac Bob” passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2006 with his wife of 38 years, Laurel, by his side following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Robert was born in Glendale, CA on July 16, 1946. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Bob and Laurel were high school sweethearts at Polytechnic High School in Sun Valley. He received his Business Management Degree at Moorpark College. He enjoyed fishing and playing on-line poker in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife Laurel, daughter Robyn and future son in-law Sirre all of Lakeport; brother James, mother in-law Catherine Zinn, bother and sister in-law Howard and Marty Zinn, niece and nephew Joanne Zinn and Michael Williams and Marion and Paul Schlichting, all of Fresno; and numerous other relatives and dear friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Robert O. and Frances E. Groshong of Sun Valley, and his father in-law, Howard “Ampie” F. Zinn of Arleta.
A mass of celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at 12-noon at St. Mary”s Catholic Church to be followed by a military burial at St. Mary”s Cemetery. Friends and family are encouraged to attend a reception at St. Mary”s Hall following the memorial service to celebrate Robert”s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Lakeport Chapter.
