Folks, the one thing I can always count on is that William Rusher will tell only the part of the truths that make him seem like he knows his subjects (Tuesday, Dec. 10 Opinion, Record-Bee). To clarify he is a very conservative Republican. This, in itself, should explain why he writes as he does. It is obvious he still hasn”t come to grips with our last election and its main point that people are tired of his kind of rhetoric, i.e. Bush”s “Stay the course” etc.
He talks like Iraq is justified like WW-II was. He, just like Bush, has ignored learning about the Arab world and believes imposing our kind of democracy in that part of the world is as simple as adding more troops. He ignores the fact that Bush took most of the troops out of Afghanistan where they were justified going after Ossama Bin Laden so they could pursue Bush”s personal vendetta against Saddam.
Mr. Rusher”s quotation of Winston Churchill is evidence he thinks this country should do as it did in the past more than 60 years ago. He ignores the fact that the communications of today allow everyone to see what is good or what is bad in the world today. If terrorism was used 60 years ago as it is today, WW-II might have ended totally different. Each war we have fought has been different than it”s predecessor. Every war has required a different approach and had a different ending because of the circumstances of that particular war. Iraq will be no different, or to be specific, it will end differently than any other war because of it”s particular circumstances.
Just as I have said before, the “Big Stick” isn”t always the answer.
