I am in favor of the death penalty in certain specific circumstances. Premeditated murder, murder of a police officer or child, murder in the commission of a violent crime like rape and a few others. But you get the picture. Now to the question of how the state implements the sentence. It is actually quite simple and it has nothing to do with whether it is painless or humane. The method for execution is exactly the same as how the victim died. Basic fairness. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth and all that.
And, under the law, every death penalty conviction would be immediately reviewed by a 7-member commission comprised of 2 judges, 2 clergy, 2 citizens-at-large, and the governor. A majority vote would determine whether the execution goes forward or the punishment is changed to life in prison, no possibility of parole. The review would be carried out within 30 days, and the execution would take place on the first workday following the commission”s review.
