MIDDLETOWN — Kevin Dougherty was a scoring machine for the Justin-Siena Braves on Tuesday night as he peppered the Middletown defense for 29 points in a 73-51 non-league varsity boys” basketball victory at Middletown.

Dougherty, a junior guard for the Napa team, scored whether guarded by the Mustangs (6-6) or left unguarded.

“He was shooting jumpers right and left,” Middletown coach Mike Mullin said. “He was shooting jumpers right into our face.”

Middletown, off a week since its last game, was bit on the sluggish side, according to Mullin.

“We were a little flat coming off our break,” Mullin said. “But Justin-Siena (8-1) is a good team that has beaten a bunch of good teams.”

Tyler Hunt scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds both team highs to lead Middletown.

“Tyler played a fairly solid game,” Mullin said.

Jake Strickler, Brandon Breeden and Andrew Djernes each had nine points for the Mustangs. Djernes also had 10 rebounds and Strickler led the team with four assists.

Ahead 17-15 after one quarter, Justin-Siena pulled away with a big second period, outscoring Middletown 24-12 for a 41-27 halftime lead.

Middletown suited up just seven players for the game and all scored.
