LAKEPORT — This New Year”s baby could hardly wait to meet the world.
Ryder James Bristow”s mother walked into the Family Birth Center at 3:35 p.m. Monday and 45 minutes later he was born.
Bristow”s birthdate, Jan. 1, 2007, makes him the first New Year”s Day baby of 2007. He was born at Sutter Lakeside Hospital.
“She walked in smiling at 8 centimeters,” said birth center RN Denise Cornelison, of Angela Evans, the proud New Year”s Day mother.
Evans, 20, was still greeting family and friends Monday evening as they arrived, since nobody had to wait around very long for this birth to occur.
Monday marked the third trip Evans and Ryder”s father Mike Bristow had to make to the hospital during the pregnancy. According to Evans, she went into pre-term labor on Halloween and then came in again on her original due date, Dec. 18.
At that point, her due date was changed to the more appropriate Dec. 31.
Bristow, 21, of Kelseyville Riviera, mentioned, “It”s about time.”
“It”s all her fault,” Evans said of sister Lyndsey Cook, whom she blamed for the expedited delivery. “I only started pushing because she convinced me to. I wanted to wait for the epidural.”
“Yeah,” Cook added with a grin, “On the third push, he was out!”
But little Ryder couldn”t wait for the hour it would have taken to prep his mom for the epidural, a procedure that involves putting a local anesthetic into the lower lumbar space, which effectively blocks sensation from the waist down.
Despite the lack of pain medication, “She did a perfect job,” said RN Sasha Reynolds.
Bristow made his arrival into this world as the first baby born in Lake County at 4:20 p.m., weighing in at a well-developed size of 8 pounds, 5 ounces. He measured 22″ long.
As for any more plans for children, Evans said, “I”m having one more then I”m getting my tubes tied.”
Grandmother Janet Cook wanted to make sure the hospital staff at Sutter Lakeside received the appropriate kudos. “The hospital did a really good job, and we really appreciate it,” she said. “They”re very nice people here an excellent staff.”
Dr. Nancy Reynolds delivered baby Bristow.
New Year”s Day parents and baby received a stroller, teddy bear, silver spoon, crocheted hat, a gift certificate for a massage from the Wellness Center at the hospital and a framed handprint and footprint set.
Baby Bristow joins big sister Camrey Foy, 2, and is welcomed into the world by grandparents Janet Cook and William and Nina Evans, all of Kelseyville Riviera.
