LAKEPORT — California Highway Patrol”s 2006 Holiday DUI crackdown resulted in an increase in driving under the influence arrests over the New Year”s Weekend.

The CHP deployed 80 percent of personnel during the weekend in efforts to keep our highways safe. The CHP reported seven DUI arrests with two traffic collisions compared to four DUI arrests last year with the same amount of traffic collisions.

The total number of DUI arrests for both the Christmas weekend and New Year”s weekend to 16. No fatalities were reported.

According to American Automobile Association, reports the price of a DUI can be rather costly.

Depending on judicial district you can expect a fine up to $12,000 for a first time offense. If you are younger than 21 years of age you will lose your driver”s license for one year (four months for offenders 21 years and older). You can also expect 48 hours of jail time, two points on your driving record, two DUI impact classes, 15 weeks of DUI classes and three years probation.
