The Lake County Arts Council will be holding the First Friday Fling from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 5. The Fling is a monthly event designed so that the public can meet the artists showing at the Main Street Gallery in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, with refreshments and entertainment. This month the entertainment will be provided by Travis Austin, guitar instrumentalist, instructor and recording? artist, with his usual performance partner, Robert Owens.
Since some of the artists are rotated every month, there is always new work to view at the First Friday Fling. This month there are four new artists, Barbara Levasseur, Gaylene McComb, Kyle Hollenbeck and Jennifer Cole.
Levasseur is best known in the county for her work with the Lake County Land Trust, and this show will be her first in the Main Street Gallery. She is an accomplished ceramist, but this show will be of charming local landscapes.
Hollenbeck is also new to the gallery. He is a young photographer whose images are concerned with Iraq, where he was until recently stationed. In Iraq he worked as a helicopter technician, and many of his images concern helicopters. He also has an interest in macro-photography, and has produced a number of stunning pictures of Iraqi insects.
McComb is familiar to most Lake County residents as a prolific ceramist and has shown her strong, interesting work in the gallery several times in the past.
Cole is a jeweler who makes elegant little gemstone and wood pendants. She has been seen in local craft shows, but her work transcends the “crafts” label. We will be glad to have her in our jewelry case.
These artists will be joining Pat Courtney, Ray Farrow, Sharon Fenton, Linda Fielding, Annette Higday, Kenneth McIntosh, Bob Minenna and Bill Rose whose shows will be continuing, and who will be available at the Fling. The Arts Council hopes that you will join them for a pleasant evening of art and conversation. For more information, call 263-6658.
