Johnathan Antonio Mota, 25, of Clearlake Park, has been arrested in connection wih the Friday, Dec. 8, armed robbery of Bank of the West in Clearlake.
“The investigation is still pending,” said Detective Richard Towle with the Clearlake Police Department. The CPD asks that if anyone has information concerning the bank robbery, to please contact Detective Towle at 994-8251.
The robbery took place shortly after the bank opened on Dec. 8. The CPD reported that a single suspect, described as a male, approximately 5-feet, 11-inches tall, entered the bank, brandished a weapon and demanded money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled in a beige and brown SUV-type vehicle that was later recovered, unoccupied, less than a mile away.
The CPD reported this week that during an ongoing investigation of the robbery, it was learned that Mota was involved. The Lake County Superior Court issued a warrant for his arrest on Friday, Dec. 29.
On Saturday, Dec. 30, Mota was arrested by members of the Lake County Sheriff”s Office as they responded to a call for service at the Elem Indian Colony.
Mota was booked into the Lake County jail shortly after midnight on Sunday, Dec. 31. He is being charged with one felony count of robbery in the second degree and one misdemeanor count of obstructing a peace officer. Combined bail for these charges was set at $101,000.
