Completing our victory in Iraq is difficult. While our forces continue to win battle after battle, the enemy continues to be emboldened by actions in America. As we are winning in Baghdad, we are losing at home. Messages such as from John Ornellas in his letter to the president (Lake County Record-Bee Dec.16, 2006) and continuing comments from “leaders” such as Nancy Pelosi and Jesse Jackson severely demean the president, the war effort, and the goals our troops are striving to achieve. (Actually I respect John; I have no respect for Nancy and Jesse.) Rather than rejoice in our accomplishments in Iraq, they continue to undermine our efforts and snatch victory from our troops.
In this age, all communication is available to our enemies: their attacks are rewarded by feedback indicating Americans are losing their resolve. We are winning: a new democracy executed a tyrant that used WMD, openly threatened the US, ignored the U.N., financed worldwide terrorism, killed over 1 million human beings and truly was a time-bomb challenging our security.
The bullies of the world now know that attacks or serious threats to the security of the U.S. will be swiftly and severely dealt with,
that is real security (unlike armed guards at our airports and bridges). Thanks for that to our troops and our president.
If the insurgents only heard our support for the war, losses on the battlefield would slowly take their toll and over time they would join the democracy rather than continue a futile cause. My New Year”s wish is that we all either support the President, the troops, and our country or we be quiet. Save your hatred of the president for the ballot box rather than sending the wrong message to the enemy.
