KELSEYVILLE — Opportunity is knocking for Lake County residents. The California Highway Patrol is currently looking for qualified candidates interested in becoming CHP Officers.

The California Highway Patrol was established in 1929 by the state legislature, and according to recruiting information available on the CHP Web site, has earned a reputation of excellence worldwide. There are requirements for employment. To apply for an officer position, one must be 20-35 years of age (as of written test date). Candidates must be free from any physical, mental or emotional condition that would prohibit performance.

Interested parties must have a high school diploma, GED or passing score on the California High School Proficiency Examination. No felony convictions and a valid driver”s license are required upon appointment to the academy.

Today the CHP has expanded far beyond its original mission. As a member of the California Highway Patrol, officers are responsible for traffic enforcement and highway safety throughout the state. Duties include issuing traffic citations, arresting alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers, investigating traffic accidents and vehicle theft, and providing assistance to the motoring public. The CHP also provides general law enforcement assistance to local agencies upon request.
