POST-CHRISTMAS TREE WASTE RECYCLING

Now that the holiday is past and your beautiful tree is a candidate for pickup by a garbage collector, what to do?

Timberline advertises that up to two (2) holiday trees may be dropped off at no cost at Timberline Recycling Center through Saturday, Jan. 7 between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. After that date, there is a $2 fee per tree disposal charge.

South Lake Recycling in Clearlake will accept trees until Jan. 6 before charging the $2 per tree fee. All stands, lights, tinsel and ornaments must be removed from the trees. Trees will be composted.

Flocked trees cannot be composted and will not be accepted at the recycling center.

If you are a regular residential curbside pickup customer of South Lake Refuse and Recycling or of Timberline Disposal, you may cut your tree into 3- to 4-foot sections and place them inside your greenwaste cart. Pickup service will revert to once per month for greenwaste as of Jan. 1.

Residents of the incorporated area of Lakeport may place their green holiday trees in the collection bin behind the Lakeport Fire Station, 445 N. Main Street.

Flocked trees cannot be recycled and must be taken to the Eastlake Landfill or Lakeport Transfer Station. The disposal charge for an average tree at the Transfer Station will be the $5 minimum fee or $2-$3 at the Eastlake Landfill.

Please remember to remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel and stands for recycling. If you have questions about holiday trees or other recycling programs, please call the Recycling Hotline at 263-1980.
