I am writing this letter to express a gripe of many months. I believe in the speed limit in this county, but time and again, every day, as I keep my vehicle at the posted speed limit, other cars and trucks pass me, often crossing over a solid double line, and honking or revving their engine as if I am driving too slow.
I visited the CHP office, and the officer assured me that the posted speed limit is what we drivers are to obey, and it is against the law to drive over the speed limit.
One early evening a shiny yellow car zoomed past me, and I actually blessed them in a prayer. Roughly five minutes later, I came upon the same car bent up, crumpled, and stopped, and firemen carrying a body on a stretcher into an ambulance.
I realize that Lake County is growing, and our rush hours are now crowded, crazy times. We have many new, shiny cars zipping around as if their drivers don”t know what the posted speed limit is.
My friend argues with me and says a person is blocking traffic and a hazard if they don”t travel at least ten miles an hour over the speed limit.
I disagree. It is illegal to pass on a solid double line. It is illegal to drive over the speed limit. Each of us takes our lives in our hands when we take the wheel of a car.
Have a safe driving, happy new year.
