CLOVERDALE — Jill Bailey and Lauren Nixon each scored 14 points and Jodi Snider added 10 as the Kelseyville Knights climbed over the .500 mark with a 52-38 win over the Cloverdale Eagles in North Central League I varsity girls” interlock basketball action on Friday night in Cloverdale.
Bailey, the Knights” talented point guard, also had seven rebounds, six assists, four steals and three blocks.
“Nixon came up big, Jill came up huge,” Kelseyville coach Jim Salmina said.
Kelseyville (8-7) has won seven of its last eight after a 1-6 start.
“We put a complete game together finally and this is the outcome,” Salmina said. In other girls” action Friday:
Clear Lake 51, Fort Bragg 50
At Lakeport, the Fort Bragg Timberwolves missed a final shot and Clear Lake”s Brittany Rumfelt came down with the defensive rebound to secure the Cardinals” nail-biting victory.
Karissa Lang burned the Clear Lake defense for 25 points, but only three of those came in the fourth quarter when the Cardinals (9-4) came out of their zone defense to play man-to-man. Kaila Sterbank limited Lang to a single 3-pointer in the period
“Sterbank really stepped it up for us,” Clear Lake coach Jen Goff said.
Rumfelt led the Cardinals with 19 points and 11 rebounds and Molly Ryan also had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
St. Vincent 58, Lower Lake 40
At Petaluma, Lower Lake led 24-18 at halftime but it was all St. Vincent in the second half.
“They made the adjustments at halftime and we didn”t do anything to stop it,” Lower Lake coach Andrew Carpenter said.
Amber Shoffeitt led Lower Lake (9-6) with 16 points, including four 3-pointers.
Boys” basketball
Fort Bragg 40, Clear Lake 35
At Fort Bragg, the Clear Lake Cardinals closed the gap to two points late in the fourth quarter but were unable to overtake the Fort Bragg Timberwolves in NCL I varsity boys” action.
“We couldn”t quite get over the hump,” Clear Lake coach Ken Hook said. “But I”m not disappointed by our effort. We played a tough team on the road and put ourselves in a position to win and just couldn”t quite do it there at the end.”
Clear Lake (9-4) rallied from a 24-13 halftime deficit to make a game of it.
“Both teams played excellent defense,” Hook said.
Armando Martinez scored nine points to lead Clear Lake and Ben Valdovinos and Kory Hook each had seven.
Cloverdale 59, Kelseyville 48
At Cloverdale, Rich Rowland scored 31 points and younger brother Robbie, a freshman, added 15 as the Cloverdale Eagles held off the Kelseyville Knights.
“We didn”t panic in the fourth quarter,” Kelseyville coach Scott Conrad said. “We played well tonight and the game was pretty back and forth. They pulled away in the last few minutes.”
Cloverdale took a 41-34 lead into the fourth quarter.
Kelseyville (1-11) was led by Isaac McQueen”s 17 points and 10 rebounds. Joe Gatlyn added 12 points.
St. Vincent 54, Lower Lake 50
At Lower Lake, in a game that was tied many times down the stretch, the Lower Lake Trojans simply could never hit the shot that would put them ahead and they ended up falling to the St. Vincent Mustangs.
Lower Lake (5-10) missed a 3-pointer in the final seconds that would have tied it.
“We would tie it up, but we never seemed to be able to make a crucial shot and they (Mustangs) would,” Lower Lake coach Marty Udy said of another close call for his club, which has held the lead in the fourth quarter of seven of its 10 losses.
Mike Deakins led Lower Lake with 12 points and Jeff Wilder and Kevin Freeman each had 11.
