LOWER LAKE — A Lower Lake High School student was arrested Tuesday for allegedly making death threats to another student.
According to a Clearlake Police Department media bulletin, at 10:57 a.m. CLPD was called out to LLHS on Lake Street to investigate an incident involving a male student and a female student.
According to LLHS Principal Jeff Dixon the incident occurred when the male student made death and great bodily harm threats to the female student.
“The male student was upset and felt that the female student was interfering in his relationship with another female student,” said Dixon. “He made inappropriate comments that resulted in the Police being called.”
According to U.S. Department of Justice crime statistics between 1992 and 2002, crime fell in the nation”s schools for students age 12-18. In every year from 1992 to 2002, students age 12-18 were more likely to experience a serious violent crime away from school than at school.
In 2003, about 7 percent of public and private school students age 12-18 reported that they have been bullied at school within the past six months. Among high school students in grades 9-12, the percent who said they got into a fight on school property declined from 16 percent o 13 percent between 1993 and 2003. In 2003, 12 percent of male students and 6 percent of female student reported experiencing a threat or injury.
“This type of incident is very unusual for this school,” added Dixon. “But when this type of incident occurs, we take it very serious and deal with it appropriately.”
The male student arrested is currently suspended and is under expulsion in regards to this incident.
