LAKE COUNTY — Lineman Mark Dantes of Clear Lake High School and running back Chad Bunting of Ukiah High School will receive $1,000 college scholarships on Feb. 22 at the 46th annual National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame banquet at the Burlingame Airport Marriott.

Dantes and Buntes were voted the best in their respective categories last month by a panel of judges representing the Lake-Mendocino branch of the Hall of Fame.

The football players, who must be seniors, are nominated by coaches at their respective schools and are judged bases on their football skills, academic achievement and school leadership and citizenship. All candidates must have a B grade point average or better.

Twenty-two scholar-athletes two from each of 11 branches — constitute the Northern California Chapter of the Hall of Fame and will be honored on Feb. 22.

Dantes earned All-League first-team honors as an offensive lineman for the Cardinals during the 2006 season.
