WILLITS — Tanner Olsen won his 16th match of the season and Jay Gatton improved to 11-1 during Kelseyville High School”s 57-22 loss to the Willits Wolverines in a Coastal Mountain Conference wrestling match on Wednesday at Willits High School.
Olsen won his 145-pound match by decision to improve to 16-6 and Gatton also won by decision at 171 pounds.
Kelseyville suited up only eight wrestlers for the match and had to forfeit six weight classes, giving the Wolverines 36 of their 57 points.
“Injuries have killed us,” Kelseyville assistant coach Rob Rentsch. “We might have won the thing if we would have had a full team.”
Kelseyville”s other winners, both by pin, were Tyson Newton at 160 pounds and Al Fontana in the heavyweight division. Newton is 8-4 overall and Fontana improved to 5-2.
Kelseyville returns to action Saturday in the Clear Lake Invitational at Clear Lake High School in Lakeport. The Knights return to their CMC schedule on Wednesday when they visit St. Helena. Action begins at 5:30 p.m.
