MIDDLETOWN — Seven Lower Lake players scored seven or more points on Friday night as the Trojans rolled past the Middletown Mustangs 60-29 in the North Central League I North opener for both of these varsity girls” basketball teams at Middletown High School.
“You start league and you always want to start on the right foot,” Lower Lake coach Andrew Carpenter said of the Trojans” one-sided victory. “We missed a layup to start the game but we could not miss the rest of the quarter.”
Lower Lake led 17-6 after the first period, one that featured three of the Trojans” six 3-pointers during the game, two of them by Amber Shoffeitt.
With starting point guard Rissy Prude ailing because of the flu, her backup, Chelsey Fiedler, scored eight points, including two 3-pointers. And starting center Passion Allen-LeNard”s backup, Suzie Carlson, added eight points and eight rebounds.
“It shows a lot for our depth,” Carpenter said.
Danielle Bettencourt and Megan Mucks paced Lower Lake (11-6) with 10 points apiece. Allen-LeNard finished with nine, Cardlson, Fiedler and Shoffeitt had eight each, and Prude added seven points and seven assists.
Lower Lake outscored Middletown (0-1, 3-14) in every quarter.
Julia Leathers” 10 points, including two 3-pointers, led the Mustangs.
