If the situation were reversed a white boy would not be so charged?
As I read the points of this case [Renato Hughes] I see that people from outside this area came here explicitly to commit a crime. While the people were in the middle of this crime the victim fought back. The victim managed to defend his life and property and as a result people died.
California has a law that states if you are involved in the crime then you are culpable for all parts of the crime. The authorities charged the remaining people, who thought up the crime, for the events that occurred during the commission of the crime under the law.
Now, we are being asked to grant an exception to the accused. An exception, is what we, of this county, are being accused of perpetrating. I fail to see how a real exception would alleviate the perceived exception. Nor can I see why we must grant exceptions when we have an established system designed to determine guilt or innocence and set punishment if required.
Equality under the law requires no exceptions!
