LAKEPORT — Jameson Holder drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 34 seconds left to give Clear Lake a 58-56 lead and Kory Hook sank both ends of a one-and-one with five seconds remaining as the Cardinals rallied past the Cloverdale Eagles 60-56 in a North Central League I South varsity boys” basketball game on Friday night in Lakeport.

Clear Lake and St. Vincent are tied for the NCL I South lead at 2-0. The Cardinals improved to 12-4 overall.

Holder finished with 13 points, Brandon White added 12 and Armando Martinez had 10 to pace a balanced Clear Lake attack.

“Brandon really stepped up tonight,” Clear Lake coach Ken Hook said. “It was by far the best game he”s played.”

White scored eight points in the first quarter as the Cardinals jumped out to a 23-17 lead. He also had 10 rebounds.

Clear Lake”s bench was another big factor as starters Martinez and White were in foul trouble late in the game. Tyler Glazier made a critical layup down the stretch and Augie Perez also played well, according to Hook.

Four players combined to score all of the Eagles” points, led by Robbie Rowland”s 24.

Hook pulled down 14 rebounds and blocked three shots to go along with his seven points for the Cardinals.

Willits 60, Kelseyville 44

At Willits, Wes Stevenson scored 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and Joe Gatlyn had 11 points in an NCL I North loss to the Willits Wolverines.

“We played pretty well, but we can”t put the ball in the basket,” Kelseyville coach Scott Conrad said. “Willits is big and fast and physical and they do a good job on the boards, so you”re not going to get many second chances.”

Kelseyville fell to 0-2 in the North standings and 1-15 overall.

St. Vincent 75, Upper Lake 59

At Upper Lake, a season-high 28 points by Max Curtis wasn”t enough for Upper Lake in an NCL I South loss to the St. Vincent Mustangs.

Curtis also led the Cougars (0-3, 4-14) with 12 rebounds. Jacob Widener had 10 points and nine rebounds and Kyle Coleman added nine points and 10 rebounds.

“We played 3 ? quarters of good basketball,” said Upper Lake coach Forrest Stogner, who was referring to the opening period when St. Vincent outscored Upper Lake 24-9, nearly the difference in the game.

Fort Bragg 59, Lower Lake 43

At Fort Bragg, a run in the second quarter gave the Fort Bragg Timberwolves a double-digit lead and they went on to beat the Lower Lake Trojans in NCL I North action.

Fort Bragg improved to 3-0 in the North standings while Lower Lake fell to 1-1 and 7-12 overall.

“They”re the team to beat,” Lower Lake coach Marty Udy said. “They played a solid man-to-man defense.”

Jeff Wilder”s 17 points and five rebounds sparked the Trojans.

“Wilder kept us in the game, especially in the second half. I thought he played a great game,” Udy said.

Fort Bragg 50, Lower Lake 49

At Lower Lake, in a battle for the NCL I North lead, the Lower Lake Trojans came up just short against the visiting Fort Bragg Timberwolves.

Lower Lake trailed 50-47 in the final seconds and while Chelsey Fiedler did make a long shot, it was from just inside the 3-point stripe.

“She just lost her place on the floor,” Lower Lake coach Andrew Carpenter said.

Rissy Prude scored a season-high 24 points in a losing cause for the Trojans (1-1, 12-7), but no other Lower Lake player scored in double figures. Passion Allen-LeNard had six points and 13 rebounds.

Kelseyville 65, Willits 20

Allyson Brown, Amanda Mueller and Lauren Nixon each had eight points for the Knights, now 10-8 overall.

Kelseyville outscored Willits 40-7 in the second half.

“We had great balance everywhere, both scoring and rebounding,” Kelseyville coach Jim Salmina said.

Cloverdale 55, Clear Lake 47

At Lakeport, the Clov-erdale Eagles had an up-and-down night but still beat the Clear Lake Cardinals in NCL I South action.
