LAKE COUNTY — In a private ceremony held Tuesday, Rina Ferrario, a 2006 graduate of Kelseyville High School, became the new Miss Lake County.
Ferrario was the first runner-up to Emily Barker at the Miss Lake County Pageant held Aug. 11. Barker resigned her crown Jan. 1. The Miss Lake County Scholarship Organization invited Ferrario to take her place.
Attending the ceremony were Miss California Field Director Gwen Atkins, former Miss Lake County Saundra Combs, Ferrario”s sponsors, Rob and Kim Brown, and her parents Gino and Brenda Ferrario.
A freshman at Humboldt State University, Ferrario is majoring in political science. Her future plans include receiving a Masters Degree in political science and to become a lobbyist of an elected government official, according to a press release from the Miss Lake County Scholarship Organization.
According to the release, as Miss Lake County she will focus on political awareness and voter registration and will begin preparing for the Miss California Pageant this summer.
“It will be an incredible honor to represent this beautiful Lake County,” Ferrario said. “I was raised in Lake County my entire life and I will be pleased to represent my home county in Miss California 2007.”
“I would like to thank my wonderful sponsors, Rob and Kim Brown of Kelseyville for all their support, also my parents Gino and Brenda Ferrario and my brother David for all their love and encouragement,” Ferrario said. “I am so excited to begin working with such a fun team of people on the Miss Lake County committee who will continually help me be the best Miss Lake County I can be and give me the opportunities to shine in Miss California.”

A statement issued by the Miss Lake County Organization said, “We are thrilled that Rina is joining us. She is a talented and beautiful young lady that possesses all the qualities of an ambassador for Lake County; she”s dedicated and enthusiastic about serving her community, she”s kind-hearted, honest and gracious, and she”s passionate about using her platform to make a difference.”
The Miss Lake County Scholarship Organization is a preliminary to the Miss American Organization, which awards more than $45 million in scholarship monies annually. According to the release, it is the largest scholarship foundation for young women in the world.
