According to the news the other day, a natural gas-like odor permeated the city of New York. A friend informed me that he had recently read a book containing a similar terrorist plot. My understanding of this scenario was that terrorists purposely loosened mercaptan, the natural gas odor additive, while traversing up and down the Hudson River. They did this to get an idea of the area affected and “calculate the kill rate” if they dispersed a toxic chemical or biological agent through this area. Naturally, they used our own news media to gauge the affect on the public. I would like to have this possibility given some thought by the Department of Homeland Security. Maybe the newspaper can.
