LAKEPORT — Two Lake County officers were given awards Friday.
California Highway Patrol Commander Lt. Dane Hayward awarded Officer Joseph Labbe of the Clearlake Police Department the coveted “10851” award.
In a separate ceremony, Clear Lake Area CHP officer Mark Crutcher was awarded the same award in Kelseyville.
Named after 10851 of the California Vehicle Code, the “10851” award is presented to officers who have recovered at least three stolen vehicles with suspects taken into custody, and at least nine recovered vehicles with no suspects.
“Most people don”t know that it is a violation of law to leave your vehicle unattended while it is running. This is a major contributer to stolen vehicles throughout the state and certainly in our county,” said CHP Officer Josh Dye. “It is also wise to always keep your doors locked when you park your vehicle. Although we live in a small rural county, there are still plenty of people that will take advantage of opportunities such as unlocked vehicles.”
This award is sponsored by AAA and the CHP and is part of their ongoing efforts to reduce vehicle theft.
