I read the Readers” Views constantly for it seems that this venue leads to more and deeper coverage of local news than is provided by your reporters. I am especially referring to the letter from Victoria Brandon of the Sierra Club Group published in your Jan. 2 issue. How did all these pertinent facts elude your reporter? Surely the reporter could do better than just print the developer”s views without doing some background checking.
I have been waiting to see if anyone else would request more information on the Konocti Vista Indians” housing. Several months ago the Record-Bee published an account of how this same tribe had entered into a cooperative agreement with a Covelo tribe to produce modular housing in order to provide employment opportunities for their tribal members. It seems logical that your reporter should have at least enquired as to why this project was not followed through, and instead the new housing was purchased and installed by another company under the auspices of HUD. Was there some reason for the lack of development of the project or did the tribal members refuse the offer of employment? It seems obvious that your reporter showed no interest in the background of the story.
Incidentally, I”m interested in learning about the name of the street “Yellow Hammer.” Does it have any special significance to the Indians?
I”m just curious.
