Selling the last open space on the shoreline in Lakeport to developers for high rise condos, timeshares, and elite resorts will destroy forever the image and quality that Lakeport is known for a small tranquil town with a view of the lake for everyone and access to the lake for all to enjoy. Natural High and Dutch Harbor properties should be open space to be used for flea markets, concerts, craft shows, carnivals, car shows, dog walkers community open-air events for everyone.

Perhaps it is time to ban any further shoreline development. The lake has become a forest of piers along Lakeshore Boulevard and two-story houses on tiny lots are packed like sardines in a tin on the very edge of the lake. Tules which filter the water and harbor birds and waterfowl are practically non-existent, and the bass fishermen discourage and chase away the pelicans. Where is the quality in all that?

If planning commissioners and the community development directors were elected by the people (instead of being appointed) for short terms, we might regain control of our space and protect the quality and density of our town. With our vote they might have to listen to “us” the people who live here. Meanwhile, the planners and invading developers run rampant hand-in-hand. And none of the proposed projects do anything to improve the life of the people already here.
