LAKEPORT — Hank William Beck, 19, and Robert Wenning, 18, of Nice were arraigned in court Monday on felony burglary charges. The cases were heard by judges Richard L. Freeborn and Richard C. Martin. Neither lowered bail despite requests from both suspects to be released on their own recognizance. Bail remained at $10,000 for each suspect.
According to the Lake County Sheriffs Department, Beck, Wenning and a juvenile were arrested after being stopped by Deputy Darren Daskam, who responded to a reported burglary at Scully Packing Company. Upon arrival, Daskam viewed videotape of the burglary, which showed three male suspects vandalizing and stealing a 1991 Polaris ATV 4-wheeler. The tape also showed the three males discharging a fire extinguisher and spilling over a 55-gallon barrel of oil. According to a press release, upon questioning, the three males admitted to the crime.
Daskam responded to another burglary Monday afternoon at the L&L Vineyards. According to a press release, footprints matching the first burglary, a discharged fire extinguisher and cans of the same brand of beer were discovered at the crime scene.
Wenning and Beck pleaded not guilty on all counts. Beck is scheduled to return to court March 9 in Dept. 3. Wenning is scheduled to return to court Feb. 16 in Dept. 2.
