It”s been decided. The Squad and the Clear Lake Cardinals are heading for the Glory Days Flag Football 2007 championship title. With hard-earned wins on Saturday, Feb. 4, both teams advance in their respective divisions.
The Glory Days Flag Football championship game is slated for 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at Haverty Field in Clearlake.
The Cardinals, led by quarterback Adam Bruch, captured Division II rights on Feb. 4 with a shut-out victory over Footballs Deep. The Cardinal defense proved to be too much for Footballs Deep to handle and the Cards put the game away, 6-0.
Division I action saw the final play-off game end in double overtime with The Squad and Layem Down taking the battle to the line. Going into overtime with the score standing at 13-13, The Squad and Layem Down heated up the action as the teams struggled to pull ahead.
The Squad was the first to break the tie on a touchdown by Tyrell Brown; but failed on the two-point conversion leaving the score at 19-13.
Layem Down answered back but also missed its two-point conversion, tying the game again at 19-19.
The Squad scored again when quarterback Chacho Leon connected with Steven Arson in the end zone. Again, The Squad failed on its two-point conversion; however, Layem Down couldn”t move the ball into the end zone and the game ended with The Squad taking a 25-19 victory to gain passage to this Saturday”s championship game.
