Leon Robert Olson was born Oct. 2, 1912 in Provo, Utah and went home to the God that gave him life Feb. 5, 2007 in Lakeport.

He liked to be called either Robert or Bob. Bob grew up in Provo, Utah. As a senior in high school he met his wife to be Mary Fern Harris, married in 1935 and celebrated 71 years together. Together they brought two fine children into this world Gary Lee and Mary Anne, of which there are 13 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Bob attended Brigham Young University and studied accounting and business. He served in the United States Air Force as Captain and in charge of payroll and accounting at Hill Air Force Base in Utah.

His entrepreneurial spirit was evident throughout his life in Sales. After working for Utah Woolen Mills, he and Mary founded their four Robert”s Dress Shops in Utah and California until 1957. He then sold real estate in Santa Clara, until he became an agent for State Farm Insurance for the following 25 years and retiring at the age of 70. He loved working with people.

Bob was very athletic, enjoyed gymnastics, snow and water skiing, swimming, and golf. He was particularly interested in serving with the youth groups in his church. Owning real estate was very much a part of their lives, staying close to their children in Utah, Texas and California. Bob loved his wife Mary who preceded him in death this past June of 2006, and will be honored as a “Dear husband, loving father, fun and encouraging grandfather, and nurturing great-grandfather and a truly beautiful example of love and compassion.”

His family expresses deep gratitude to the wonderful care he received at Sutter Lakeside Hospital.

Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 600 16th St., Lakeport.
