LAKEPORT — Johnathan Antonio Mota was in court on Friday facing two criminal charges of second-degree armed robbery and resisting arrest. Mota, 25, of Clearlake Park was arraigned and Judge Stephen Hedstrom continued the case until March 1 to allow defense more time to prepare for the case.
Mota was arrested Dec. 12 in connection with the armed robbery of Bank of the West in Clearlake. The robbery took place on Dec. 8 shortly after the bank opened.
According to a statement issued by CPD, an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen during the robbery, and the suspect fled in a beige-and-brown-SUV-type vehicle that was later recovered and discovered to be reported stolen.
Mota is currently jailed at the Hillside Road Correctional Facility in leu of $1 million bail.
