I was totally misquoted in the article on the Grand Jury re: Hughes (Record-Bee Feb. 17) What I said was that since the complaint was not given in confidence to the jury only, it was not bound to pursue the complaint. This is exactly the same information given in the letter to the complainant. The misquote appears to indicate a flippant attitude. The Grand Jury is in no way “flippant” about its work.
As an added note: Prior to learning the complaint was given to the press, our committee was set to interview several African-American groups in the county to investigate the issues of the complaint.
An apology is due.
