CLEARLAKE — Vehicles parked for sale at the Four Corners intersection of Old Highway 53 and Olympic Drive will no longer be tolerated by the City of Clearlake. Vehicles left there will be red-tagged for removal.
The southeastern corner lot, known as the “Four Corners” intersection, has been the site of a used car lot for private owners of vehicles for the past several years. To prevent the public from parking vehicles at this corner, the Clearlake Code Enforcement Department will be tagging all vehicles, including RVs, boats, etc., for removal.
“This needs to stop,” said Senior Code Enforcement Officer Janine Lowe. “For one, this is private property and people have no right leaving their vehicles here without permission; and two, it”s an eyesore creating unnecessary blight in our community.”
Lowe and Code Enforcement Officer Lee Lambert were out last week putting red tag notices on the vehicles occupying the space. A total of six vehicles were tagged, including two trucks with camper shells and a rusty old truck that had not been registered since 1997. As of Monday, those six vehicles had been removed; however, another vehicle has been parked on the property with a for sale sign displayed in the window. That vehicle has been removed but on Tuesday, another vehicle had taken its place.
Code Enforcement officers will be patrolling this corner and will red-tag anything parked on this prime piece of property for removal as long as the problem persists.
“This property is not zoned for a used car lot and may not be used as one,” Lowe concluded.
