UPDATED:

Mr. David Blair is presently teaching math including high level calculus to a group of very bright and dedicated students, some of the best in this year”s graduating class. Mr. Blair is dedicated, competent and concerned. He sets the bar high enough to challenge these students, including our daughter.

This is somewhat of a rarity in the current educational climate and these college bound students will have an even greater appreciation next year when this becomes the norm. At the school board meeting in February, the Board took action at the recommendation of the District Superintendent to not renew Mr. Blair”s contract.

It is important that KHS and the Kelseyville School Board make every effort to retain Mr. Blair”s services. The school is fortunate to have him as a teacher. Obviously, we cannot know all the facts leading up to the Superintendent”s recommendation to the Board as they may include confidential personnel issues.

The Board should consider the positive aspects expressed by parents and students and weigh these against the implied negative factors. The current decision to terminate his contract is misguided, perhaps politically driven in this small community and will have a lasting effect in the quality of mathematics future students will have available as they prepare for higher education.

We urge the community to contact the school board members and ask them to reconsider Mr. Blair”s contract and allow him to continue teaching at KHS. The students of Kelseyville High School deserve every opportunity for future success in life that requires exposure to challenges. Please do not take this away from them.
