GEYSERVILLE — Bombs away.
The Middletown Mustangs and Geyserville Bronchos didn”t put too many zeroes on the scoreboard Wednesday in a non-league softball game at Gesyerville High School.
Middletown scored in every inning and Geyserville in all but two before the Mustangs emerged with a 23-13 victory, their first of the season after four straight losses to open the 2007 campaign.
“It feels real good,” Middletown coach Lisa Rogers said of the Mustangs” initial victory. “We kind of went brain dead in the fourth inning, but we regrouped.”
Rogers was referring to the Bronchos” six-run rally in the fourth as the home team closed to 13-9. Middletown came right back with five runs in the top of the fifth.
Julia Leathers had the biggest day of all the Middletown hitters, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs. She capped the Mustangs” scoring with a three-run blast in the top of the seventh.
Amber Lofton, Jacquie Tobin, Sam Senseney, Nikeedra Davis and Kayla Dilks all had two hits for the Mustangs (1-4). Dilks also scored four times and drove in two runs and Senseney scored three runs and had two RBIs.
Winning pitcher Jen Emberson struck out seven and walked five.
