KELSEYVILLE — The Kelseyville Knights are finally hitting the ball, but not even eight runs over the final four innings could save them from an 11-8 loss to the Calistoga Wildcats in non-league softball action on Thursday in Kelseyville.

After being no-hit in a 6-0 loss to Healdsburg on Tuesday in their season opener, the Knights (0-2) trailed 9-0 after three innings against Calistoga.

“We had a little dugout heart-to-heart after that,” Kelseyville coach Greg Giusti said. “And we came right out in the bottom of the fourth and got five hits (and scored four runs),” Giusti said. “So I guess you could say they responded. The team showed the kind of heart they have.”

After the Wildcats roughed up losing pitcher Casey Bowlin for nine runs in the first three innings, including a seven-run third, they scored only two runs the final four innings against reliever Courtney Haskett.

Allyson Brown and freshman Sarah Johnson anchored Kelseyville”s 14-hit attack with three hits apiece. Brown also knocked in two runs and scored three times.

Other Kelseyville leaders were Megan Andre (2-for-4) and Lauren Giusti (2-for-4, double, RBI).

The Knights play Ferndale today at 3:30 p.m. in the opening round of the Willits Tournament. They play two more games on Saturday in Willits.
