Over the last several weeks, I”ve been following the situation regarding the Kelseyville School Board”s decision not to renew the contract of math teacher, David Blair. I fully support this decision and would like to explain why.
When Mr. Blair moved to the area, he was my neighbor. Me and my family were some of his biggest supporters. However, after observing his actions and demeanor, we chose to pull back.
I have observed Mr. Blair”s inability to control his temper and his choice of words. He shows no respect for anyone who has a different point of view than his own.
My wife and I had gone to a school board meeting to express our views regarding his conduct as a basketball coach. Yes, my son played on his basketball team and my daughter did the team stats. Both my son and daughter were math students of his as well, and I know how he operates in the classroom.
Now the question is whether or not Mr. Blair is a good math teacher. Yes, he does know the curriculum, but he has no compunction about calling students out and demeaning them in front of other students. After crossing the line, he then uses his charm to make them forget about it so they won”t report the incident to staff or parents.
As a former police officer, we cannot allow our kids to be held hostage to such behavior in a public school setting. It is my intention to see to it that the parents of our students have all the facts before making their decision. We all want what is best for our children. I know there are many qualified teachers who would love to live in this beautiful community and teach, what I have come to know as, truly wonderful young adults.
