Two weekends of standing ovations just wasn”t enough for the dynamic stars of “Greater Tuna,” so they are doing it again. This hilarious play by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard, takes place in the small town of Tuna, Texas, “where the Lions Club is too liberal and Patsy Klein never dies.” Performances by the immensely talented Bill Fredrickkson and Eric Patric bring to life ten characters (each!) to side-splitting perfection.
There are two very good reasons for this reprise performance. The first is that this play was sold out on the last weekend (due to word-of-mouth and the fact that some people came to see it more than once). Many people were turned away disappointed in February as the Lower Lake venue filled to overflowing. Cast and crew were besieged with requests to extend the run for one more week, but this wasn”t possible due to construction plans already scheduled for that venue.
The second reason (and perhaps the first in real importance) was the request to utilize Tuna”s overwhelming popularity as a fund-raiser for St. Jude”s Children”s Hospital. This institution benefits children from all over Northern California and is truly deserving of local assistance.
The cast and crew were willing to do it one more time so the next questions were where and when. The answer came from a timely offer of space and support from the East Lake Grange in Clearlake Oaks … on April 1st … which, of course, just happens to be April Fool”s Day, an appropriate day to laugh if ever there was one.
So … this one last benefit performance will take place at 2 p.m. April 1, at the East Lake Grange on State Route 20 (right next to East Lake Elementary School) in Clearlake Oaks.
Advanced tickets can be purchased at Nostalgia in the Oaks (998-9982) and Shannon Ridge Tasting Room (998-9656), both on East SR 20 in Clearlake Oaks. Tickets will also be available at the door. The cost is $10 for seniors, students or members of LCRT/LCP and $12 for General Admission.
