LOWER LAKE — The high school track season in Lake County kicked off Wednesday with a mega-meet of sorts as six different schools sent full teams to Lower Lake High School, including Middletown, which is fielding a team for the first time.

Clear Lake dominated the varsity boys” competition with head-to-head wins over Calistoga, Lower Lake, Upper Lake, Middletown and Mendocino (the complete box is on Page A9).

In the girls” division, Upper Lake beat Calistoga, Mendocino, Lower Lake and Clear Lake and tied Middletown 49-49 pending the outcome of the pole vault, the one event that was not completed. Middletown defeated Calistoga, Mendocino and Lower Lake and was leading Clear Lake 50-48 pending the outcome of the pole vault.

In the junior varsity boys” division, Calistoga beat all the other teams by handy margins. Middletown”s squad went 4-1, losing only to Calistoga by a 43-25 score.

Varsity boys

Clear Lake won nearly every event during the varsity boys” competition, led by double-event winners Brandon White and Justin Mills, who also ran a leg on the Cardinals” winning 4×400-meter relay team.

White won the long jump in 19 feet, 8 inches and the 110 hurdles in 16.4 seconds. Mills” firsts came in the 300 hurdles at 45.3 seconds and the 400 at 57.5. He joined teammates Tyler Glazier, Seth Glazier and Kory Hook on the winning 4×400 relay team, which finished in 3 minutes, 56 seconds.

Other Clear Lake winners were Hook in the triple jump (37-5), Collin Coddington in the shotput (39-9), Daniel Gildea in the discus (112-4), and Tyler Glazier in the high jump (5-4).

Middletown won two events. Chris Nance was first in the 3,200 (12:09.7) and the Mustangs” 4×100 relay team of Nick Valdovinos, Jake Senseney, Miles Moffatt and Chance Hart finished first in 49.1.

Varsity girls

Lake County athletes won nearly every event in the girls” division. Lower Lake”s Andrea White was first in the 200 (29.3) and she tied teammate Denise Farrias for first in the 100 (14.1).

Middletown”s Amber Preusser won the 400 (1:11) and was part of the Mustangs” winning 4×100 relay team (59.5), joining teammates Amber Begley, Alex Snodgrass and Emily Beckwith.

Upper Lake winners were Raquel Wells in the long jump (14-11), Daniella Santana in the shotput (30-5 ?), Samantha Bullard in the discus (75-6) and Yessica Ayala in the 1,600.

JV boys

In JV boys” action, Middletown”s Shawn Kelley won the 100 (12.5) and tied Calistoga”s Aleno Nunes for first in the 200 (26.1). Kelley”s teammate, Austin Ray, won the 300 hurdles (1:00.3).
