UPDATED:

Following the recent decision by the Lakeport City Council to deny the event known as BoardStock to the lakeside city, a mistake has been made. As representatives of the community, elected officials are charged with doing what is best for the people. Turning away any event that draws a potential 30,000 “spending” tourists is not best for the people of Lake County.

Admittedly, I was not in attendance of deciding council meeting, but from the Record-Bee”s coverage, it”s clear the deciding factors were largely related to conduct associated with event participants. Using this logic, Marti Gras would have never become a celebrated success for the tourist hungry New Orleans community.

While I appreciate concern for city resources, I”m reluctant to accept elected officials who cannot work together to ensure accommodation for an event which could well become a Lake County tradition.
