MIDDLETOWN — Brandon Skinner tossed a five-hitter and struck out 10 on Friday as the Middletown Mustangs beat the Lower Lake Trojans 6-1 in a non-league junior varsity baseball game at Middletown.
It was the third straight complete game for the Mustangs (4-2), all by different pitchers. Skinner, a hard-throwing freshman, struck out the side in the second and fifth innings. He allowed his only run in the top of the first.
“He was very efficient,” Middletown coach Ron Hays said of Skinner, who faced just 26 batters — five over the minimum. “He throws hard but he had a lot of control today (only two walks).”
Middletown gave Skinner a lead he would not relinquish by scoring twice in the bottom of the first. John Hays” sacrifice fly tied the score and Dylan Galusha”s RBI double made it 2-1 in the Mustangs” favor.
Skinner helped his own cause during a three-run Middletown third inning, singling home two runs.
Galusha went 2-for-3 for Middletown and Thomas Biasotti went 3-for-3 for Lower Lake.
