MIDDLETOWN — A confrontation involving speed and alcohol resulted in a Middletown man being stabbed Saturday night. Suspects were described as “two Hispanic males” driving a red Ford Mustang, according to a follow-up report from the Lake County Sheriff”s Dept.

The victim, identified only as a 32-year-old Clearlake man, yelled at the occupants of a vehicle he believed was speeding as it drove past, according to a preliminary Lake County Sheriff”s report. The unidentified driver stopped and backed up, then got out of the vehicle.

“Alcohol was a factor in the incident,” said Lt. Pat McMahon Monday afternoon.

The victim was stabbed with what he later told detectives was a box cutter in the altercation that followed.

LCSO deputies responded to the scene at 7:11 p.m. Saturday evening, where the victim was already being treated by Cal Fire (formerly known as CDF). The preliminary report said he was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial with injuries whose seriousness was not reported.

“Any stab wound is serious,” said McMahon.

Witnesses at the scene described the suspects as two Hispanic males, one wearing Khakis pants, and a second subject, “being heavy set with a mustache,” according to the follow-up report.
