UPPER LAKE — District 3 Supervisor Denise Rushing will host a town hall meeting in Upper Lake Thursday to address the community”s concerns, including redevelopment, flooding issues and parks projects.
Upper Lake lies in the county”s redevelopment area and is home to a system of levees currently under national scrutiny that may affect what type of flood insurance homeowners will have to buy. Rushing said the flooding topic would entail an update regarding FEMA”s remapping process and the potential for flooding in the area.
Rushing has hosted similar town halls in Clearlake Oaks and Lucerne since she was sworn in as supervisor in January. She points to the town halls as a format for community participation that has proven its worth.
“I plan to sponsor town halls regularly throughout my term in office, but these first town halls are really designed to give the citizens an opportunity to chart the course for what I should be working on in these communities,” said Rushing.
The meeting will be held Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Upper Lake High School Cafeteria at 675 Clover Valley Road.
County Chief Administrator Kelly Cox, Deputy Redevelopment Director Eric Seely, Public Works Director Gerald Shaul, and Deputy Water Resources Director Pam Francis will update attendees at the start. The remainder of the meeting will be an open forum for citizens to offer input, make announcements or share information, said Rushing.
Rushing said she also plans to sponsor frequent citizen surveys to “stay on track with the wishes of the community.” Redevelopment, being a “resource- intensive process,” is especially in need of citizen participation in its decision-making process, noted Rushing.
