UPDATED:

Speaker Pelosi has stated “there will be no impeachment” of President Bush, but I ask whether perhaps this is the time impeachment is needed to save us from another senseless war.

President Bush pledged to support the Constitution, but he has repeatedly ignored and disobeyed it, attempting to set up a dictatorial government. Our Constitution creates a system of checks and balances between the three parts of government.

Congress is to write all the laws, which can be vetoed by the President unless there is a 2/3 vote overriding him, or which can be determined to be unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. There is no place in the Constitution for the “signing statements” Bush has repeatedly placed on laws passed by Congress, in essence, changing the law without trying to veto it.

Our Constitution states that everyone has the right to a speedy trial and a lawyer; Bush”s government has incarcerated many without trial-American citizens, as well as foreign “enemy combatants”. Our Constitution forbids cruel and unusual punishment to prisoners; Bush”s team has employed such punishment at Guantanamo with no effect other than destroying America”s international reputation.

Most worrisome is Bush”s use of war, rather than diplomacy, to attempt to achieve his goals. There are many who believe that he will initiate war against Iran within the next two years, blaming Iran for his failure in Iraq. He has already had the Iranian embassy in Iraq invaded and searched with destruction of computers and computer files, in an effort to find justification for attacking Iran.

The Constitution states that only Congress can declare war. How can another war be prevented other than by impeaching George W. Bush, our dictatorial Commander-in-Chief?
