LAKE COUNTY — Lake County deputy sheriffs will participate in a regional task force created to address sex offense registrants who do not comply with registration laws
People who are convicted of designated sex offenses, such as rape and child molestation, are required by law to keep law enforcement informed of their address.
Some convicted sex offenders fail to comply with this law. Some move between jurisdictional boundaries to avoid law enforcement scrutiny.
The California legislature established funds for Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) teams. The objective of a SAFE team is lower the number non-compliant sex registrants.
SAFE team”s use a variety of methods to lower the number of non-compliant registrants in an area. Those methods range from training and education to vigorous enforcement of existing laws.
Lake County deputies will participate in the Region II SAFE Task Force. This task force is unique in that its members include deputy sheriffs from twelve county sheriff”s departments.
Members of probation departments, district attorney”s offices, state law enforcement agencies and federal law enforcement agencies will also participate in Region II SAFE Task Force activities.
Lake County deputies will bring law enforcement officers from these agencies into Lake County to help enforce sex registration laws.
The Region II SAFE Task Force is the only task force of its type in California.
