In Southshore Little League action last week the Mariners” Jake Peters hit the first homerun of the season, en route to a 6-3 victory over the Athletics. Peters sent it over the left field fence and brought in three runs toward the victory.
Richard Tucker and Zef Roofner combined the pitching efforts for the Athletics in the bout against the Mariners. The two allowed three hits and had eight strike outs. JoJo Logue and Chris Carpenter combined on the mound for the Mariners and allowed one hit and had 11 strike outs.
In the Mariners match against the Giants, Peters pitched five complete innings and allowed one hit and had 13 strike outs. For the Giants, Tony Fonseca and Daniel Eagle combined efforts and allowed one hit and had nine strike outs. The final score left the Mariners on top, 3-0.
The Athletics enjoyed a 4-3 victory over the Cardinals.
“The game was a real pitchers” dual,” reported league statistician Marie Moon. Richard Tucker had 12 strike outs for the Athletics and Jon Duncan pitched three innings for the Cardinals and had eight strike outs. Tucker went 3×4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
In minor league action, the Angels beat the Mets, 6-5; the Devil Rays beat the Cubs, 17-12; and the Angels beat the Devil Rays, 6-0.
