FORESTVILLE — Sophomore Mike Duman capped a strong tournament performance by going 3-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs in the Kelseyville Knights” 5-3 win over Fortuna in the third-place game of the West County Tournament on Thursday at El Molino High School.
El Molino upset Northgate of Walnut Creek, the team Kelseyville lost to 10-0 in Wednesday”s semifinals, late Thursday in the championship game.
“We played real well this last game,” Kelseyville coach Morgan Weiper said of the Knights” win over Fortuna, which capped Kelseyville”s 2-1 tournament run.
Duman drove in each of the Knights” first four runs. He singled home a run in the bottom of the first to knot the score at 1-1 and his two-run single in the second put Kelseyville ahead 3-1.
Fortuna pulled even with two runs in the top of the third and it remained a 3-3 game until the bottom of the fifth, when Duman”s RBI triple put the Knights ahead to stay. Winning pitcher Luis Martinez followed with a RBI single to make it 5-3.
Martinez went the distance on the mound, allowing 11 hits and walking eight.
Duman, who went 4-for-4 in Kelseyville”s first-round victory over Arcata on Tuesday, finished the tournament 7-for-9 at the plate.
Kelseyville, now 6-7 on the season, opens its North Central League I North schedule on Tuesday at home against Fort Bragg at 4 p.m.
