COBB — It rained, it hailed, it snowed. All in all, it was a lovely Tuesday afternoon for the seven teams that took part in a Coastal Mountain Conference South match at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain.

With the temperature dipping into the mid-30s, the Kelseyville Knights maintained a perfect conference record with an easy win on their home course.

“It snowed three different times,” Kelseyville coach John Berry said. “We”re careful never to schedule matches here in mid-March or late March because of the chance of snow, but here it is mid-April and it was still miserable. But we got in all 18.”

Kelseyville improved to 30-0 in the South standings with a final score of 378 (combined five low individual rounds out of six). St. Vincent finished with 424, edging out Middletown by a single stroke for second place. St. Helena was next at 455, Tomales followed with 481, Rincon Valley Christian had 489 and Calistoga was incomplete.

The day”s low round went to Rincon Valley sophomore Ty Cazet with a 1-over-par 69 that featured four birdies.

“That”s a very solid round,” Berry said. “He”s a good golfer.”

Kelseyville”s Schuyler Bloom and Brent Hamilton were close behind with 71 and 72, respectively, and Middletown”s Doug Quinones finished with 73.

While a handful of golfers wanted to call it a day after nine holes, they weren”t from Kelseyville, according to Berry.

“We are mentally tough and I heard no complaints,” Berry said. “We knew what we had to do and we knew what to expect (on our home course).”

While the weather conditions were far from ideal, they presented more of a mental than a physical barrier to most of the golfers, according to Berry.

“The ball didn”t fly as far today, but this is not that long a course and you really don”t want to hit it that far on some of the holes,” Berry said.

On Bloom”s low round for the Knights, the Kelseyville coach said he wasn”t surprised.

“He plays real solid and has worked on his game quite a bit. He”s 15 shots better than two years ago and he”s getting better,” Berry said.

Hamilton and Quinones each carded three birdies during their rounds. Middletown”s Mitch D”Amico finished with 76 as did Kelseyville”s Darrin Sullivan.

The CMC South teams meet again Thursday at Meadowwood Golf Club in St. Helena.
