While I must thank Mr. Wicks for his kind words regarding my son and his thought processes, I am afraid I must advise Mr. Wicks to trade his boxing gloves for a ladder as the intent of my letter seemed to go over his head.

The young people protesting this war are every bit as thoughtful as my son. To try to divide this debate between liberal/conservative, red/blue, young/old or pro/anti war is to attempt to take a very complicated situation and reduce it to its lowest common denominator ? censorship of what you may or may not agree with.

The current administration in Washington has been very effective with their “Us vs. Them” mentality. If we don”t stop buying into it, we will lose this great nation. Freedom to disagree (with no need to be disagreeable in doing so) is a cornerstone of democracy. All opinions should be welcomed, by all ages.

My father was a World War II veteran, and folks like Mr. Wicks may not have cared for what he used to call Mr. Bush every time my father heard him speak. I believe that was why he fought to keep this nation intact and secure so he would have the right to cuss the daily news but still allow its broadcast.

Ms. Mueller”s comment that “We need our chosen news to be less hateful” is most curious. Edification please, is it censorship on the editorial page you are wanting, or only happy little stories on the front page? I”m as sorry as you that our world is filled with hate and war and genocide. I”m even more sorry that a great deal of it appears to be religion based ? a concept I have yet to reconcile. However, ignoring it will not make it go away. Discussions and debates can be problem-solving tools but only when used regularly and freely.
