LAKE COUNTY — Brandon White helped the Cardinals earn a share of the North Central League I South championship. Brittany Rumfelt ended her stellar career ninth all-time among Lake County”s scoring leaders.

The two Clear Lake High School seniors are the most valuable players on the 2006-07 All-County basketball team as selected by the Lake County Record-Bee.

White didn”t get off to a great start this season but was among the most consistent Cardinal scorers and rebounders down the stretch as Clear Lake battled Cloverdale and St. Vincent for the NCL I South title, ultimately finishing in a tie with Cloverdale. On the season, White averaged 8.6 points a game and was among the team”s top rebounders.

Rumfelt averaged 19.8 points a game for the 13-11 Cardinals, who finished third in the NCL I South standings behind Cloverdale and St. Vincent. A double-digit scorer and rebounder for coach Jennifer Goff”s squad, Rumfelt, a three-year varsity veteran, scored her 1,000th career point early in the season at Willits and ended up with 1,278 points, which is not only the ninth-best individual total for a Lake County player, but fourth best among Lake County girls.

Coaches of the Year are Ken Hook of the Clear Lake varsity boys (16-8) and Jim Salmina of the Kelseyville varsity girls (20-9). Salmina”s Knights clinched a share of the NCL I North championship and were the only Lake County team to reach the postseason in the 2006-07 campaign.

While Clear Lake”s boys were unable to secure an at-large berth in the North Coast Section Division IV playoffs, Salmina watched his squad stumble out of the gate at 1-6, then win 19 of its final 22, including 11 straight heading into the playoffs.
