The Lake County Arts Council is pleased to bring to Lake County the 26th annual Spring Dance Festival. There will be two performances, Saturday, April 28, and Sunday, April 29, at the Marge Alakszay Center on the combined Lakeport schools campus.

Dance has been an important part of cultural life in Lake County for more than the 26 years that the Spring Dance Festival has been held.

There have been people dancing in the spring for far more years than we can confidently count, and we trust that they will continue to do so when the Dance Festival has faded past obscure memory. But this Spring we can see it, as it is today, alive and pulsating, our own home-grown art.

Dance styles change over time, in step with changes in music. The Dance Festival reflects this, with this year hip-hop, salsa, line dance, ballet, clogging and jazz, and a lot of show biz thrown in. It is inspiring to know that there is this much dance talent in our little county, and this much variety.

The more-than-100 dancers involved have spent years developing their skills. It is daunting to consider the cost of years of classes, the drives to rehearsals, the costumes. They are like athletes in a sport whose rules are constantly changing. They are our team. Everyone wins.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 29. Tickets can be obtained at the Bunkhouse in Middletown, Catfish Books in Willowtree Plaza, Lakeport, Direct Image Printing in Clearlake, and at the Arts Council”s Main Street Gallery in downtown Lakeport. Reserved seats can be purchased at the Main Street Gallery only. Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for students and seniors, $6 for children under 12, and $15 for reserved seating. Tickets will be available at the door for one dollar more. For more information, please call the Lake County Arts Council at 263-6658, or visit www.lakecountyartscouncil.com.
