UPDATED:

I see some pretty unhinged letters to the editor from time to time, but Wednesday”s rant by Allison Gibbs (Record-Bee, April 25) takes the cake. Gibbs suggests we murder 95 million people in Iraq and Iran and take all their resources, in spite of the fact that we have never been threatened by either country.

To cap it off, Gibbs also suggests that the Islamic religion is inherently violent, in spite of the fact that both world wars and most of the mass-murder on this planet were products of “Christian” nations. Gibbs apparently isn”t clear on the fact that America was the nation that killed democracy in Iran when it installed the Shah, and his murderous rule made the revolution by the clerics possible. We also supported Saddam for over 30 years.

When we helped bring Saddam to power in the 1960s, we brought with him the rule-by-minority Sunnis, which produced today”s sectarian violence. Also lost on Gibbs is the fact that the president of Iran is as unpopular there as our own president is here, and that most of the people she has suggested we kill are children.

In short, the more we have to do with the politics of the region the worse things get, for us and the unfortunates who are paying with their lives rather than just tax dollars. Hopefully there are few Americans who share the view that we should become racist, mass-murdering thieves, and they won”t be displaying their ruthlessness and ignorance in a voting booth or this paper again.
